I took the plunge and got an EV.
I've had my Chevy Equinox for about month now and I love it. It's the first electric car I've driven so I'm not sure if it's representative of all the options out there.
Some interesting things to note:
It's nice to jump in the car, put it in gear and go without having to "start" it.
The car is eerily quiet.
Acceleration is fast and smooth. It's the quickest car I've ever driven.
One pedal diving is cool. Press to go, let up to slow and lift off to stop. When you let up it regenerates electricity.
It has 330ish miles when fully charged (though Chevy officially says 319). I drive about 20 miles a day which means I only need to charge once a month.
With a Level 2 Charger it will charge to full capacity over night. So far I'm using a standard outlet in the garage to charge on the weekends. It seems fine?
The Chevy dealership here lets you swing by and use their fast charger for free.
I will not miss gas stations or oil changes.
I haven't made any long trips so I can't speak to any challenges there yet. For now, it's an in town commuter that's fun to drive and saves me $150 a month on gas.
