The Nonic pint glass has a perfect design feature.
Patented by Hugo Pick in 1914, the Nonic (No-Nick) pint has a small bulge in the glass below the lip. This simple feature solves several problems:
Nonic glasses stack better and don't stick to each other like traditional pints. Glasses that stick together slow down service and are more likely to fall and break.
The bulge makes it easier for customers to hold and prevents drops if the glass slips because of condensation.
If the glass is knocked over, the bulge absorbs the shock and prevents the rim from getting chipped.
It's a simple design feature that benefits the employer, employee and customer. How many features are designed to do that? In the age of planned obsolescence and Enshittification, not many.
