World's Largest Pop-up Book

This is pretty cool. The Library Foundation of Los Angeles in partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library commissioned printmaker Daniel González and paper engineer Matthew Reinhart to make an enormous pop-up book.

The book (entitled "Luceros y Penumbras") is 31ft by 20ft and weighs nearly a ton, breaking the previous Guinness World Record for largest pop-up book. Who knew there was such a thing?

Luceros y Penumbras is on view at the Richard J. Riordan Central Library until November 2026. I suppose they'll spend the rest of the year figuring out how to move it somewhere else. You can check out more info and pics on the Library Foundation of Los Angeles website.

I’m attempting to make a regular sized non pop-up book on my lunch breaks and failing miserably. I can’t imagine the time commitment to make one for a giant.
